Tories slam Kinnock's compensation package

The Conservatives have accused the European Commission of "appalling extravagance" after details of Neil Kinnock's pension and pay-off were revealed.

The outgoing commissioner will receive £277,000 over the next three years and an annual pension of £63,900 a year for life.

Chris Patten, Britain's other retiring commissioner will receive £210,000 over three years and a £32,000 a year pension for life.
