Scotland moves closer to public smoking ban
Scotland is moving closer to banning smoking in pubs and restaurants.
Jack McConnell, the first minister, said yesterday that a workplace tobacco ban would be in place within 18 months.
He thought a ban was "desirable" for Scotland after meeting the politicians and officials who outlawed workplace smoking in Ireland at the end of March.
"I am certainly more convinced now than I was in January that at the very least something approaching an outright ban is enforceable, practical and therefore desirable in Scotland," he said.
