Blunkett frees terror suspect
An Algerian who was interned as a terror suspect for almost three years was released from a top-security jail yesterday.
The man, known only as "D", was held under emergency anti-terrorism laws.
He was freed by David Blunkett who said in a written statement that he was revoking the certificate that allowed the man to be held without charge or trial.
Mark Oaten, the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman, said: "This case makes the government's policy of detention without trial look even shakier than it did before."
