Hewitt to offer limited liability protection

Following a meeting with leading accountants yesterday, the industry secretary is today set to announce limited protection for directors against litigation, according to the FT.

But Patricia Hewitt will not go as far as auditors want when she inserts new amendments into the Companies Bill.

Shadow economic affairs minister Andrew Mitchell will attempt to expose a reported rift between Hewitt and chancellor Gordon Brown by tabling amendments to the Bill this afternoon.
