Cost of missed GP appointments revealed

Patients who fail to turn up for appointments with GPs cost the NHS at least £162 million per year, a survey reveals today.

The survey of 700 practices in Britain, by Developing Patient Partnerships, an educational charity, and the Institute of Healthcare Management, reveals that nearly nine million people failed to attend a consultation with the doctor and another four million missed appointments with the practice nurse.
