MPs issue legal aid warning
The government's plans to reintroduce legal aid means tests for defendants facing criminal trials create a "substantial risk" of added delays in the criminal justice system, a committee of MPs warns today.
The Commons committee accuses the Department for Constitutional Affairs of failing to produce any convincing evidence that the plans for legal aid means tests would lead to substantial costs savings in any event.
