Ofsted slams schools over obesity rates
The education watchdog will on Tuesday criticise schools for their role in rising rates of child obesity.
Chief inspector of schools in England David Bell will conclude that overall the teaching of healthy eating and the importance of exercise is patchy and often unsatisfactory.
According to Department of Health statistics, a sixth of children under 15 in England are obese, and a third are obese or overweight.
Meanwhile, in a report out on Sunday, Ofsted said that the history of the British Empire is being neglected as a subject in schools.
The empire is "a significant subject that currently receives insufficient time in many schools", it said.
