Brown rules out election spending boost

Speaking to the CBI yesterday, Gordon Brown ruled out a pre-election spending spree.

After saying that previous administrations had relaxed their grip on spending in the run up to general elections, the chancellor vowed: "I will not repeat those mistakes."
