More rate rises expected
An unexpected surge in mortgage lending in June has made a further rise in interest rates next month much more likely.
The British Bankers' Association reported that leading high street banks' net mortgage lending rose by a record £6.5 billion last month.
The Council for Mortgage Lenders said that gross lending by its members jumped to a record peak of £27.8 billion in June, sharply up from May's £24.1 billion.
