Forces braced for massive cuts

The armed forces are facing the biggest cuts since the end of the Cold War in next week's spending review.

The Telegraph says that the Navy will have fewer ships, the Army will lose tanks and the RAF will cut thousands of personnel while some of its jets will be grounded.

However the Times adds that fears of overstretch will be eased by the decision not to send another 3,000 troops to Iraq as violence recedes.
