A survey by the Guardian has found that over half of acute and specialist NHS trusts face difficulties in complying with new rules on the working hours of doctors.

Under the EU working time directive the maximum working week for junior doctors should not exceed 58 hours.

The paper found 13 hospitals openly admitting that they would not be able to comply with the rules when they come into effect on August 1.
