Environment secretary Margaret Beckett is said to have been angered by the Home Office's failure to consult with her on new gun rules that could have a big impact on countryside shooting.

Under the proposals there would be tougher restrictions on shotgun licensing, prompting fears of a major financial impact on the countryside economy.

Beckett is said to believe the move undermines a manifesto commitment not to outlaw shooting.
