Howard moves to shore up support
Michael Howard is planning to go on the offensive on traditional Tory policy areas of crime, asylum and tax in an attempt to raise the morale of Conservative backbenchers.
The Tory leader is coming under pressure after a series of setbacks, including third place in both recent by-elections and a lack-lustre performance in the Commons Iraq debate on Tuesday.
