The chancellor is set to announce 1,000 job cuts at the Department of Trade and Industry in his spending review on Monday.

Gordon Brown will outline the plan, along with massive relocations out of London, in a bid to reduce Whitehall running costs.

However the DTI will benefit from Brown's determination to increase science spending, according to the FT.
