Government climbdown on selection mooted

The government is reportedly ready to scrap its policy of allowing new flagship specialist secondary schools to select pupils.

Ministers had legislated for most specialist schools to select up to 10 per cent of their intake by aptitude.

However, severe criticism from the Commons education select committee has forced a rethink.
