Brown breaks modern Treasury record
Gordon Brown has today become the longest serving chancellor since 1823.
On his 2,601st consecutive day in the Treasury he overtakes then Liberal David Lloyd George, who held the post from 1908 to 1915.
But he will hope to be in Number 10 Downing Street before he hits Lord Bexley's mark of 4,015 days in 2008.
