Talks continue on new Iraq resolution

Tony Blair has said he is optimistic that there will soon be agreement on a new UN security council resolution on the transfer of sovereignty to Iraq.

The prime minister said yesterday that there is "common agreement" in the international community on the need for the full transfer of sovereignty.

But the Guardian reports that a vote on a new resolution has been delayed by continuing disagreements over the powers of the interim Iraqi government to veto coalition military operations.
