The government has conceded that patients in different parts of the country are subject to unacceptable inequalities in their access to approved, life-saving cancer drugs.

Health secretary John Reid yesterday accepted a report from cancer "tsar" Professor Mike Richards and vowed to do more to end the postcode lottery.
