The row over the future of Humberside police chief David Westwood moved to the High Court yesterday.

As Home Office lawyers applied for a judge to order Humberside Police Authority to suspend Westwood over the Bichard report, David Blunkett revealed that he wants to stay on if Labour wins the next general election.

He said: "I might well be home secretary well into the next parliament. I would like to think I would be."
