UN close to deal on Iraq power transfer
Jack Straw will today brief MPs on the latest moves to transfer sovereignty to an interim Iraqi government.
Talks are continuing at the United Nations amid hopes that a new security council resolution on Iraq could be agreed as early as today.
The latest developments follow an exchange of letters between the US and the interim Iraqi government setting out procedures for carrying out military actions.
The foreign secretary is also likely to update MPs on the security situation in Iraq following confirmation that a private contractor, killed in an ambush near Mosul on Saturday, was a Briton.
