The private finance initiative has led to huge mistakes in the £6 billion hospital building programme in England, NHS chief executives told ministers yesterday.

The report by the employers' organisation, the NHS Confederation, said: "The private finance initiative must be reformed if we are to realise its full benefits for patients."
