Labour MPs watched the big game in the House of Commons yesterday after being summoned by pager message from their Whips' Office.

Phyllis Starkey, MP for Milton Keynes South West, said: "I do find it mildly amusing that we do not, for example, get pager updates on how the Chelsea Flower Show is doing but football seems to have a near-religious intensity."
