Michael Howard has turned his fire on UKIP insisting a vote for the party is a waste.

In a move which drew claims of Tory panic ahead of next week's European poll, Howard said UKIP "was at one extreme" of the European debate.

Polling suggests UKIP could outpoll the Lib Dems and eat into the core Tory vote.

The Guardian reports that the "slanging match" between Michael Howard and Robert Kilroy Silk risks undermining his leadership.

Kilroy Silk said yesterday that many Tory MPs want Britain to pull out of the EU.

Meanwhile the Independent reports that Sinn Fein is poised to pick up two European seats in Ireland.
