Peers inflict defeats on higher education bill
The House of Lords inflicted three defeats on the government's Higher Education Bill last night.
Peers asked the government to spare gap year students and those on extended courses from university fees of £3,000 a year.
The government is unlikely to agree to the concessions when the controversial bill returns to the Commons.
