The British National Party is to field a record number of local election candidates in the North of England.

Yorkshire has 101 candidates — more than double last year’s total of 45 — contesting seats across 11 councils.

Next month’s elections will also see 57 BNP candidates in the North East and 52 in the North West, until recently seen as the party’s strongest region.
