Hodge backs extension to maternity pay
Children's minister Margaret Hodge has signalled that paid maternity leave should be doubled to last a year - but only if it is "affordable" to business.
In a speech to the Social Market Foundation she said Labour's determination to further improve early years and childcare services and develop more family-friendly policies was driven by its belief in gender equality.
