Equitable Life chairman Vanni Treves will today call on parliament's watchdog to launch an investigation into the role played by the Department of Trade and Industry in the insurer's near-collapse.

Speaking at the insurer's annual meeting, he will back an investigation by parliamentary ombudsman Ann Abraham.
