GPs may be paid to keep patients out of hospital

As many as 40 primary care trusts are considering paying doctors £100 for every patient they keep out of hospital.

The scheme is intended to reduce emergency admissions and keep down waiting lists.

However, doctors are reportedly concerned that the payments will be seen as unethical and damage public trust.
