John Major, who was prime minister when an RAF Chinook carrying Britain’s top counter-Irish-terrorist experts crashed into the Mull of Kintyre 10 years ago, has called today for the blame to be lifted from the pilots.

Writing in The Times, Major says: "There is no justification for blaming pilot error."
