In a report to be published today, the Statistics Commission will propose measures to improve public confidence in official figures.

It will set out a new framework covering all government data, not just that published by the Office for National Statistics.

The report is published as shadow chancellor Oliver Letwin steps up his claims that ministers "fiddled" figures on government efficiency.
