The National Association of Schoolmasters and Union of Women Teachers has demanded airport-style security checks in schools, amid concerns about the rising number of weapons being brought into the classroom.

"I don't think children are going round schools armed to the teeth but more and more pupils are feeling vulnerable, and this is about making schools a safe environment", said NASUWT deputy general secretary Chris Keates.
