Blairites issue referendum warning
Three of Tony Blair's closest allies claim today that the future of the Labour Party depends on victory in the EU constitution referendum.
Writing in today's Guardian, Peter Mandelson, Stephen Byers and Alan Milburn defend the prime minister against Tory charges that he has shown weakness in reversing his position.
"It would only be weak were any part of the government now to fail to put the pro-European case," they say.
According to the trio "the party's political future depends" on victory.
"We must unite behind the prime minister to achieve a historic victory," the North East MPs write.
