Rato to become IMF chief
Former Spanish finance minister Rodrigo Rato looks likely to become the next managing director of the International Monetary Fund, after his main rival dropped out of the race.
Although Jean Lemierre had the support of French and German ministers, he said yesterday that he expects to remain president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for another four years.
