Ministers pledged yesterday to introduce before the summer measures to "save" high street pharmacists from the interests of out-of-town supermarkets.

The Department for Trade and Industry plans to draw up a "package of measures" in response to an Office of Fair Trading report which called for the full deregulation of the pharmaceuticals market.
