Conservatives will focus on the public services when the party meets in Bournemouth for its annual conference in October, the Times today reports.

New party chairman Theresa May will open the conference, which will centre on the issues of education, health and transport in what has been described as "phase two" of Iain Duncan Smith's leadership.

Shadow chancellor Michael Howard will make a speech on the second day concerning "a society for everyone", while the third day will be devoted to creating a "safer world," with an address by shadow home secretary Oliver Letwin.

Duncan Smith will end his second conference on the fourth day, while David Davis, who was demoted in the reshuffle, is not scheduled to speak at the conference.
