The Ministry of Defence has today been accused of wasting more than £100 million on property left empty.

According to figures from the Liberal Democrats, the MoD is also spending a similar amount on private properties because its current quarters are unfit to house military personnel and their families.

The Lib Dems blame a deal agreed with a private company, Annington Homes plc, by the then Conservative government in 1996 and the ministry's inefficiency for the situation.
