Jon Aarons of the Institute of Public Relations has criticised the practice of recruiting former journalists to senior communications roles in Whitehall.

"You'd have to be mad to want to step into Martin Sixsmith's shoes, and that is a tragedy," he said in an interview with ePolitix.com.
