Elizabeth France has warned that government plans for ID cards could fall foul of data protection laws.

The information commissioner believes poor standards of record keeping could see an "enormous task" for government to ensure the "entitlement card" scheme meets the Data Protection Act's requirement that information is accurate and up to date.
