Ministers rebuff Mandela over Lockerbie bomber
The government yesterday rejected a call from Nelson Mandela for a fresh appeal for the Lockerbie bomber, Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi.
After spending over an hour with al-Megrahi, the 83-year-old former South African president emerged to tell waiting reports that the Libyan's solitary confinement was "psychological persecution".
He said he was seeking an urgent meeting with Tony Blair and president Bush.
