Sport England will not be made a scapegoat for the extra delay in rebuilding Wembley as a national stadium, its head has warned.

Speaking to the Independent newspaper, David Moffett says: "I think Sport England, in some quarters, has been most likely been unfairly maligned as being the perpetrator of all the evils of Wembley, when, quite simply, it is not the case."

His comments come as the culture, media and sport select committee prepares to publish a damning report on the process, and the government plans a review of how large lottery grants are awarded.
