Control freakery is dead claims Gould

Writing in the Spectator, government pollster, Philip Gould, warns that American-style campaigning has turned off voters.

"We need new solutions for a new political era. First we need a new relationship between politicians and the citizen. It is not longer possible for politicians to look at the world and simply seek to control it," he writes.
