Six months after terrorist attacks on Washington and New York, America has commemorated the 3000 victims with a temporary memorial of a "tribute in light" - two mile high beams of light in the skies of Manhattan - and the exhibit of Franz Koenig's 1971 45,000lb bronze sphere smashed during the collapse of the World Trade Centre.
