Downing Street has been accused of "cronyism" over its decision to appoint a Labour donor and prominent business supporter of the party to head up the Better Regulation Taskforce.

David Arculus, chairman of Severn Trent, featured in Labour's business manifesto and is a campaigner for euro membership.
