Government defends Enron dealings

The disclosure of more meetings between Enron and the government has pushed Labour back on the defensive over its relationship with the failed energy company.

When detailing dealings with the company last week, the prime minister's official spokesman failed to mention meetings involving industrial policy adviser Geoff Norris, Treasury official Ed Balls, former paymaster general Geoffrey Robinson and then Welsh Office minister Peter Hain.

Deputy prime minister John Prescott told the BBC: "There is no evidence to suggest any kind of corruption."
