Tornado squadron hit by spending cuts
The RAF squadron tasked with protecting London in the wake of the September 11 attacks is facing the axe.
The Tornado fighter squadron is to be "declared down" next January. Shadow defence secretary Bernard Jenkin said: "There can be no rational, strategic or military reason for this decision."
The Ministry of Defence said other aircraft would be positioned nearby.
