The number of Scottish MPs in the House of Commons is to be cut by 13 under proposals, published tomorrow, designed to bring Scotland's representation at Westminster into line with the rest of the UK.

The Boundary Commission for Scotland has decided that 59 seats, as opposed to the current 72, should be contested at the next general election.

MPs facing the loss of their constituencies include Gordon Brown, John Reid and George Foulkes.

John Swinney, leader of the SNP, predicted the reforms would lead to a "civil war" in the Labour Party.
