Nick Brown, the former agriculture minister, says today that the UK is still vulnerable to foot and mouth disease and warns that more must be done protect the country against future epidemics.

However, speaking on the BBC Radio 4 Westminster Hour, the environment secretary, Margaret Beckett, described the government's response to the outbreak as "a small triumph".
