Tourism earnings fall 14 per cent
A combination of the foot and mouth outbreak and the effects of the September 11 attacks led to a 14 per cent fall in overseas tourism earnings last year. Total earnings fell from £12.8 billion to £11 billion. Tony Blair joined a campaign to promote Britain as a tourist destination by signing an open invitation to visit Britain.
