Conservatives call for Civil Service Act

The Conservatives have called for a Civil Service Act to regulate ministers and their special advisors.

Party chairman David Davis recommended the establishment of a tribunal to investigate complaints made against ministers, while the act would also prevent political advisors from giving orders to civil servants, who are supposed to be politically neutral.

His comments follow the Steelgate affair, and the resignations of spin doctor Jo Moore and head of communications Martin Sixsmith from the Department of Transport.
