The UK and French governments are planning an unprecedented joint visit to the Great Lakes region of Africa later this month.

Foreign secretary Jack Straw and his French counterpart will visit Uganda, Congo and possibly Rwanda with the intention of making inroads into the armed conflicts which have beset the region for much of the past decade.
